Watson Coleman Statement on the Passing of Congressman Mark Takai

For Immediate Release:

Ewing, New Jersey (July 20, 2016) — Today, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) issued the following statement on the passing of Hawaii Congressman Mark Takai (HI-01):

“I am deeply saddened to learn that my fellow Freshman and progressive, Congressman Mark Takai has passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.  As a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, over the course of 20 years in Hawaii’s State House, and as a Member of the House of Representatives, Congressman Takai served his community and this nation,  hard-working Americans in Hawaii and beyond.

“I pray for comfort and peace for Congressman Takai’s family and friends at this difficult time, and I hope that they find solace in his tremendous legacy of service, and the brave and public profile he lent to a diagnosis that claims far too many lives.  We’ve lost a tremendous leader, and we’ve lost him much too soon.”
