Watson Coleman Applauds Passage of her Child Care is Essential Act in the House

Today, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman applauded the passage of the Child Care is Essential Actlegislation she introduced alongside Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03), Chair of the House Education and Labor Committee. The bill will create a $50 billion Child Care Stabilization Fund within the existing Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) program, and was passed in the House today alongside the Child Care for Economic Recovery Act, both of which deliver on the Democrat’s agenda for the people by ensuring families have child care options and support during in the COVID-19 economy.

“If we’re determined to get Americans back to work, and we’re willing to implement the necessary protocols to keep them safe when they do so, we have to step up and give them peace of mind when it comes to childcare,” said Watson Coleman, a member of the member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services. 

“This is a long-neglected issue that needs our attention now more than ever. Democrats have continuously stepped up to support American families, and this is no different. Child care is essential to our recovery and our daily lives after COVID-19, and this bill recognizes that.”
