Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman and Jared Moskowitz Introduce the Capitol Dog Relief Act
Today, Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) and Jared Moskowitz (FL-23) introduced the Capitol Dog Relief Act.
The Capitol Dog Relief Act would require the designation, design and construction of at least one dog relief area on Capitol grounds.
“Each day we come to work protected and supported by the many pups of the Capitol,” said Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman. “Whether it’s the K-9s keeping campus safe by sniffing out threats that humans can’t detect, or the office dogs providing a welcome boost to staff and member morale, our lives are made immeasurably better by our four-legged friends. We should look after them as well as they look out for us, and make sure they’re comfortable and cared for when they’re at the Capitol. That’s why I introduced the Capitol Dog Relief Act.”
"The Capitol Dog Relief Act is a strong step towards making our nation's Capitol buildings a kinder and more convenient place for service animals,” said Dr. Robin Ganzert, President and CEO of American Humane. “As the country’s first national welfare organization, American Humane is committed to support working and service dogs within our government buildings, who operate alongside human partners to perform invaluable services—from lending site and support for handlers to helping to sniff out threats. We rely on these incredible animals to protect and serve the country's leaders and constituents, and this bill will help create better accommodations for them."
