Rep. Watson Coleman Issues Statement on Supreme Court Mifepristone Ruling
Today, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision in FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine:
“We should celebrate that the Supreme Court did not take this opportunity today to further restrict access to safe and effective medication abortion. But we are not out of the woods yet.
“The Court ruled only that the anti-abortion advocates who brought the case did not have standing to do so. It left open the very likely possibility that someone else in the future could sue to restrict access to the medication, which is safe, effective, and has been approved by the FDA for more than 20 years.
“As we saw with the Dobbs decision, this Court has no remorse when it comes to rolling back freedoms that have existed for decades. We can not rely on the Supreme Court to protect our civil rights and liberties as we once could.
“While we can breathe a sigh of relief for now, we must take action at the federal level to protect access to medication abortion, contraception, and medical care for people who need it.”
