Rep. Watson Coleman Statement on Trump Administration Decision to Rescind the Clean Power Plan

Today, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) released the below statement following the Environmental Protection Agency announcement that Administrator Scott Pruitt signed a measure to repeal the Clean Power Plan:

“By repealing the Clean Power Plan this Administration continues to drive in reverse - mowing down all progress that would ensure future generations have clean water, clean air and a clean energy economy.

Right now Americans in Texas, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and California are grappling with the effects of extreme weather grinding local economies to halt and causing mass human devastation. Over the past 10 years, extreme weather has cost the U.S. economy at least $240 billion - a number surely to rise if we do not take measures to cut pollution. Further, our national security continues to be compromised by climate change, sea level rise, and changing weather patterns across the globe.

The facts are clear. Climate change is a global crisis that requires not only international cooperation, but also, the United States’ leadership as the world’s second largest contributor. Scott Pruitt and Donald Trump are so hell-bent on dismantling the progress of President Obama not realizing that clean energy expands our economy and creates good-paying jobs - promises they have yet to make good on.”
