Rep. Watson Coleman Statement on Majority Leader Steny Hoyer Announcement

WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 18, 2022) — Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) issued the following statement on House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer’s decision to step down from House Democratic leadership while continuing to serve in Congress:

“Majority Leader Hoyer’s steadfast commitment to Democratic ideals and values is truly admirable. Since 2007, Leader Hoyer has played an instrumental role in guiding the House Democratic Caucus, both as Majority Leader and Minority Whip.

“Hoyer’s leadership helped Democrats secure passage of several historic pieces of legislation, including the Affordable Care Act, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the American Rescue Plan, and the Inflation Reduction Act.

"While I am grateful that Hoyer will continue to serve his district, including through work on the Appropriations Committee, his unwavering guidance will be missed. I commend his decision to pass the torch to the next generation of House Democratic leaders.”
