Rep. Watson Coleman Congratulates New House Democratic Leadership
WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 1, 2022) — Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman congratulated Reps. Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark, and Pete Aguilar on winning the House Democratic Caucus’ leadership elections.
In the 118th Congress, Jeffries will serve as Democratic Leader, Clark as Democratic Whip, and Aguilar as Democratic Caucus Chair. Jeffries will be the first Black person to lead a major political party in either house of Congress.
“Starting next year, the leadership of the House Democratic Caucus will look more like America. From school boards to executive boards, women and people of color belong in every room where decisions are made, and Congressional leadership is no exception,” said Congresswoman Watson Coleman. “By electing a historically diverse leadership team, House Democrats are reaffirming their commitment to serving our nation’s most vulnerable communities.”
The elections of Jeffries, 52, Clark, 59, and Aguilar, 43, reflect House Democrats’ focus on the future of their Caucus.
“I commend Speaker Pelosi, Majority Leader Hoyer, and Majority Whip Clyburn for passing the torch to a new generation of leadership,” said Congresswoman Watson Coleman. “Congratulations to Congressman Jeffries, Congresswoman Clark, and Congressman Aguilar on their historic victories. I look forward to serving under their bold new leadership as House Democrats continue fighting for the people.”
