Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman Votes to Pass Government Funding Package
Earlier today, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) voted to pass the second tranche of government funding bills to avert a partial government shutdown at midnight tonight and fund the remaining federal agencies for a full year.
Rep. Watson Coleman issued the following statement regarding the vote:
“Today I joined my Democratic colleagues in voting to avert a disastrous government shutdown. Yet again, my colleagues and I made up the vast majority of votes for passage, making clear that House Republicans cannot be relied on to govern responsibility.
“This package of bills doesn’t include everything I want, but it staves off the worst attacks on LGBTQ+ rights, provides essential resources for agencies to continue delivering crucial government services, and includes $1 billion for childcare support.
“Time and again, House Democrats have shown we are the adults in the room. And as we’ve seen from this morning’s eruption of discontent over Speaker Johnson’s leadership, House Republicans still can’t seem to pull it together.”
