Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman Sends Letter to Starbucks CEO Requesting Information on Impending Closure of Trenton Community Store
Today, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) sent a letter to Starbucks CEO Laxman Narasimhan seeking information regarding the upcoming closure of the Starbucks Community Store located in downtown Trenton.
Community Stores are part of a program by Starbucks to provide economic opportunities in historically underserved communities. The Community Store in Trenton has been a resounding success, the letter notes, prompting questions over the reason for its closure.
“Given the clear and obvious alignment of the Trenton location’s performance with the goals of the Community Store Program, is this closure a signal from Starbucks that you are moving away from your stated commitment to supporting and uplifting underserved communities?” the letter reads in part. “This Starbucks location has become an important part of downtown Trenton and its community, and I hope that you will reconsider closing it.”
The Starbucks Community Store in Trenton was the ninth store that was opened. Starbucks had previously committed to opening 1,000 stores by 2030.
