Watson Coleman Visits Area Food Banks

Ewing, NJ (April 9, 2015) ― Today, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) toured three food pantries across New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District to better understand the services these centers provide, and highlight their importance in the community. Earlier this year, Watson Coleman signed a letter urging continued federal support for The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), which assists local food banks and emergency feeding agencies with their mission to serve those in need.
“While we’ve seen some signs of economic recovery, far too many families are still struggling to make ends meet. Keeping food on the table can be one of the greatest challenges,” said Watson Coleman. “The sites we toured today help bridge the gap for families and seniors in need. But they won’t be able to continue that work if we allow cuts to the federal programs that support them. Food pantries help hardworking families get back on their feet. Cutting federal funding for programs like TEFAP risks sending those same families back into a spiral of poverty.”
Watson Coleman visited Somerset’s Franklin Township Food Pantry, the St. Peter’s CDC Food Pantry in Spotswood, and the Lord’s Kitchen Feeding Program operated by Shiloh Church in Plainfield.
