Watson Coleman Questions Continued Investigations of Planned Parenthood, Benghazi

For Immediate Release

WATSON COLEMAN QUESTIONS CONTINUED INVESTIGATIONS OF PLANNED PARENTHOOD, BENGHAZI

Washington, DC (October 1, 2015) ― Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) issued the following statement today after comments from Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) and House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (UT-3) indicated no viable reason to continue an investigation of Planned Parenthood, or the existence of the Select Committee on Benghazi:

“Majority Leader McCarthy and Chairman Chaffetz have now publicly confirmed what we already knew: “investigations” of Planned Parenthood and Benghazi are politically motivated wastes of taxpayer dollars. Based on what we’ve heard over the past two days, there can be no doubt the creation of an additional committee to further probe Planned Parenthood’s perfectly legal and vital health activities will result in absolutely zero legitimate oversight. Further, proceeding with the Benghazi Committee after acknowledging it’s true purpose discredits the reputation and history of this body. With the truth exposed, I hope that the Majority can let go of their dysfunction, and get to work on the priorities of the American people.”

In an exchange Wednesday evening on CNN’s the Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, Chairman Chaffetz was asked if there was any evidence that Planned Parenthood had broken “any law,” and responded, “No, I’m not suggesting that they broke the law.” On Tuesday evening, Majority Leader McCarthy indicated that the purpose of the Select Committee on Benghazi was to inflict damage to Hillary Clinton’s Presidential campaign. Watson Coleman is a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
