Watson Coleman Leads New Jersey Delegation Request for Expedited Funds to Community Colleges
Today, U.S. Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) led 10 other members of the New Jersey Congressional Delegation in a letter to Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos requesting expedited disbursement of CARES Act funds to New Jersey’s Community Colleges.
“With the second most confirmed COVID-19 cases in the nation, it is clear that New Jersey students have an immediate need for assistance. This need is likely even greater among students at community colleges as they have, on average, the lowest incomes of higher education students.”
The letter calls on the Department of Education to expedite disbursement of funds and establish clear guidelines that include flexibility and accountability for community colleges and their students.
Congresswoman Watson Coleman was joined on the letter by Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker and U.S. Representatives Donald Norcross (NJ-1), Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5), Tom Malinowski (NJ-7), Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-6), Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10), Andy Kim (NJ-3), Albio Sires (NJ-8), and Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11).
