Rep. Watson Coleman Votes to Fund Government, Avert Shutdown

WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 30, 2022) — Today, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) voted to pass a continuing resolution that would keep the federal government funded for 11 more weeks.   

Already passed by the Senate, the continuing resolution will fund the government through December 16 and avert a shutdown. Among other provisions, the resolution includes aid for the Ukrainian government and relief for victims of the Jackson, Mississippi water crisis and Hurricane Fiona. 

“By passing this continuing resolution, Congress is voting to keep our government running and our economy strong,” said Rep. Watson Coleman. “On top of preventing a government shutdown, this legislation funds disaster relief, supports the people of Ukraine, and more.” 

In addition to preventing a government shutdown, the continuing resolution provides funding for the new 9-8-8 National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, which has seen a 40 percent increase in calls since adopting the 9-8-8 number. Also included is funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which helps low-income families keep their homes warm.

Watson Coleman. “Since my days in the New Jersey Assembly, I’ve said ‘show me your budget and I’ll show you your values.’ The investments in this continuing resolution reflect the Democratic Congress’ commitment to building a country that works for its most vulnerable.”
