Rep. Watson Coleman votes for resolution memorializing law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, rejects partisan, divisive, and disrespectful alternate resolution

Today, during National Police Week, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) voted to pass a bipartisan resolution, H. Res 1252 memorializing law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. Law enforcement officers work under difficult and often dangerous conditions to protect and serve their communities. In 2025, 363 law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty. The resolution overwhelmingly passed the House.

Additionally, Watson Coleman rejected a partisan and divisive resolution (H. Con. Res. 96) that cynically sought to use the service of our law enforcement officers to lie about “progressive politicians” by claiming they place officers and communities at greater risk.

Watson Coleman has fought tirelessly to support law enforcement officers in the 12th District and nationwide. In the fiscal year 2026, she secured $675,000 for the New Jersey Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force. In the current appropriations budget, she is seeking over $1.4 million to upgrade the communications equipment of Spotswood and South River police and public safety departments.

In March of last year, Watson Coleman joined with Congressman John Rutherford (FL-05) to reintroduce the HELPER Act, to establish a new home loan program under the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) to make homeownership more accessible for first responders.

“Our police officers deserve the respect appropriate to their work,” said Watson Coleman. “To use their service to make partisan political attacks is disgusting, and I won’t support legislation that seeks to divide our country at their expense.”
