Rep. Watson Coleman Rejects Another Non-Binding Resolution Brought Forth By House Republicans

Today, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) voted against H.Res. 1099, a non-binding resolution meant to distract from the Massie-Khanna War Powers Act.

It has become a pattern under Republican leadership of the House of Representatives for toothless, non-binding messaging resolutions to be brought to the floor that have no purpose other than political messaging, distract from more serious issues, and do nothing to solve the actual problems at hand.

“Today, we’re voting on a War Powers Resolution that will have life and death stakes for Americans and for the Constitution,” said Watson Coleman. “The question before this country is whether we want to commit to another regime change war in the Middle East, sacrificing our sons and daughters to the whims of a criminal president and his defense contractor donors. Additionally, we’re deciding whether to allow the President to get us into a war without the consent of the people’s representatives in Congress, as required by the Constitution. These are serious questions that will have serious consequences for our country a generation. To put forth a political messaging bill right now is an insult to the thousands of American troops in harm's way across the Middle East.”
