Rep. Watson Coleman Issues Statement on First Muslim Heritage Month in New Jersey
Washington, D.C. (January 31, 2024) — Today, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman issued the following statement honoring New Jersey’s first observation of the newly established Muslim Heritage Month:
“This January we observed New Jersey’s inaugural Muslim Heritage Month, a time to celebrate New Jersey’s Muslim communities, and uplift the many contributions of Muslim Americans to our shared culture here, and across the country.
“It is important to acknowledge, as we look back on this first annual Muslim Heritage Month, the devastating humanitarian crisis in Gaza that continues to worsen every day. This tragedy has impacted Muslims around the world, including in New Jersey’s 12th District.
“As we pray for a swift and peaceful end to the violence, and work towards ensuring humanitarian aid can reach the people who need it, I remain inspired by the resilience shown by New Jersey’s Muslim communities, and the strength you all have found in one another.
“Reflecting on this month, we recognize the value and importance of Muslim communities to our state and our country. We celebrate the vast array of cultural influences that enrich our society, and find solace in the knowledge that each of us has a home here.”
