Rep. Watson Coleman Hosts Town Hall in North Plainfield, Speaks with 12th District Residents
On Saturday, April 26, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12)hosted a town hall gathering in North Plainfield, NJ.
Congresswoman Watson Coleman addressed constituents’ concerns over the spread of misinformation, attacks against unions, funding for education, assaults on the federal workforce, and cuts to Medicaid and public services that communities rely on.
“It was wonderful to speak with my constituents in North Plainfield over the weekend, to hear their concerns and share what I’ve been working on in Washington,” said Rep. Watson Coleman. “Folks are rightly furious about the Trump administration gutting funding for critical public services like food safety inspection and medical research initiatives, and shredding the Constitution to deport lawful residents to a foreign prison with no due process.
“The New Jerseyans I serve want to know that the food they buy at the grocery store will be affordable and safe to eat, they want to know that they or their family members won’t be swept up in an ICE raid without warning and whisked away in the night, and they want to know that they’ll be able to retire with the benefits they’ve earned through a lifetime of work. I’m grateful so many folks showed up to make their voices heard, and I promise to keep fighting for the families and communities who sent me to Washington on their behalf.”
Though the town hall was held in North Plainfield, constituents came from across the 12th District to ask questions of the Congresswoman. Participants included a 38-year veteran of the U.S. Postal Service, concerned that the long-independent agency would be subsumed by the Commerce Department; a schoolteacher anxious over funding for public education; a local library director who wants to see bipartisan support for libraries because, “libraries are for everyone;” a 30-year veteran of the IRS and union member angry at the disrespect and disregard for federal employees show by the administration and their attacks on public sector unions; and a 6th grader who wanted to know what motivates the Congresswoman to fight for her constituents (“You,” the Congresswoman answered).
