Congresswoman Watson Coleman Announces the Appointment of Lukata Mjumbe as Faith-Based Policy Advisor
Today, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman announced the appointment of Reverend Lukata Mjumbe as her office’s Faith-Based Policy Advisor. The appointment of Rev. Mjumbe acknowledges the diversity of the faith communities in the 12th District. Rev. Mjumbe will work to coordinate faith leaders’ involvement in policy advocacy efforts, special events, and other activities to ensure the needs of the community are reflected in the Congresswoman’s work.
Serving as pastor of the Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church of Princeton, New Jersey, the Reverend Lukata Mjumbe is a veteran advocate for racial, economic and environmental justice, the protection of immigrants, criminal justice reform and the development of public policy strategies to end community violence. He tirelessly serves as an interfaith community organizer in the city of Trenton and across the religiously diverse communities of the 12th Congressional District. As a spiritual and community leader he is called to bring together people of different traditions who are deeply committed to freedom and justice.
For almost two decades, Mjumbe has served as a public policy advisor to members of the U.S. House of Representatives from Alabama to New Jersey and is committed to holding elected officials accountable to both people and principles. Reverend Mjumbe is member of the Morehouse College Martin Luther King, Jr. Board of Preachers and graduated with the highest honors from both the Morehouse College Political Science department and the Princeton Theological Seminary M.Div. and Th.M Religion & Society programs.
“I’ve worked with Reverend Mjumbe for nearly a decade and in that time, he has displayed both a skill and passion for bringing communities together and fighting on behalf of everyday people,” said Rep. Watson Coleman. “I’m certain Lukata will prove a valuable member of our team as we strive to best serve the constituents of the 12th District.”
“It is a blessing to be called to support the dynamic and principled leadership of Congresswoman Watson-Coleman in a time, season and community such as this,” said Reverend Mjumbe. “The full and effective engagement of our diverse faith communities is absolutely essential.”
